This cuvée comes from the heart of the Lirac appellation, on parcels with pebbled and clay soils.
The goblet pruning allows to limit the sugar content and to preserve the freshness. In a sunny vintage such as 2019, this allows the natural acidity to be maintained.
92/100 - PARKER
“An 80-20 blend of Grenache and Syrah, Vignon's 2019 Lirac is drawn from multiple parcels with galets roulés over clay soils. Roughly one-third went into oak, while the rest stayed in tank. It may be the most complex of the various Vignon "Signature" offerings, marrying hints of garrigue and licorice with mixed berries and hints of oak. It's medium to full-bodied, silky and forward, with the same lip-smacking drinkability factor that marks all of Vignon's wines on the finish."
Lirac is one of the most southern crus of the Rhône Valley. The appellation covers the best soils of four communes in the Gard and is presented in three colours.
This Xavier Vignon Lirac is made from a selection of 12 parcels located in the appellation. The soils of the selected parcels are mainly made up of rolled pebbles and clay.
Vinification
Manual harvest
Determination of harvest dates by daily measurement of polyphenols in the berries.
Fermentation at moderate temperature to favor soft diffusion of flavor compounds.
100% free-run juice, with extraction by gravity (no passage of the marc in the press).
Ageing
100% of the Grenache is vinified and matured in concrete tanks.
30% of the Syrah is matured in unheated barrels (Allier and Vosges) for 12 months in order to respect the sweetness without adding structure.
