It is the terroir of Rasteau that this multi-vintage wine pays tribute to!

A selection of grapes from different vintages from hillside plots that have always been Xavier Vignon's favourite. Arcane le Bateleur highlights the influence of Rasteau's terroirs on the wine: concentration, depth and generosity.

92/100 - JAMES SUCKLING

"Aromas of blackberries and spiced plums, with tea leaves, black olive, licorice and wet earth. Full-bodied with fine-grained tannins and vivid acidity. Tense and meaty with a deep core of black fruit and a spicy edge. Flavorful finish with hints of chocolate and nut shell. Drink or hold."

Terroir

The Rasteau vineyard is mainly oriented to the South, on hillsides, on clay-limestone soils partly covered with rolled pebbles.

The plots of Le Bateleur are mainly located below the Ratanaud massif (350m) towards the place called Gramiller and those towards the terrace of Crapon, at the foot of the village Rasteau.

Vinification & Ageing

Each grape variety has been vinified and aged in a different way: traditional vinification, cold pre-fermentation followed by pressing at half density and end of fermentation in the liquid phase, very long fermentation without mechanical extraction, vinification and ageing in truncated wooden tanks, maturing in concrete vats...

All these different methods and containers gives the wine its aromatic complexity.
